debt consolidation
Brad M asked:

I am very desperate to come on here and talk about my financial situation. I need approx. $20,000 to consolidate credit card debt… I do not have enough equity in my home (just bought it last year), I have tried personal loans through Capital One and Chase and have been denied. With Capitol, I even had my father co-sign (he’s got excellent credit) and it didn’t work. I have NO WHERE ELSE TO TURN. I need help, if anyone knows a forgiving lender who will look at my situation, or any other way for me to reach my goal, PLEASE let me know. Please do not refer me to a credit counseling program, for I don’t use my cards anymore, I just have been paying on them for 3 years and trying to speed up things. I know I could just keep paying the most I have on one card and work them down, but I am looking for debt consolidation OPTIONS. Like a bank or organization that would help. Thank you so much for your time in advance!

Debt Management

I have 3 cards-Chase ($8000 debt), Discover ($7000 debt) & Citicard ($2000 debt). The minimums are too high for me to pay & I’m now a month behind. I’m sending in what money I have to each creditor, but its still not meeting the minimums.

In your experience have Debt Management Companies been able to set up a Debt Management Program with these 3 creditors? Have the creditors been willing to work with a Debt Management Company?

I’d call the companies myself, but I hear they are horrible to deal with & never negociate lower payments & now I’m a month behind-so I’m sure they won’t want to even talk to me!

I owe on 3 credit cards. One is starting to fall behind on the payments as its too much to pay. Which route is the way to go? Debt consolidation or contacting creditors & explaining that I was living beyond my means & now I am having trouble paying.

On the one card I’m having trouble with (Chase), my monthly balance is $299 but I can afford to pay $180 a month to them. I’ve heard horror stories where people get the WORST treatment when they try to set up payment plans with credit card companies. Do most companies decline an offer of a payment arrangement? I can get back to more payments in January or February but now is hard.
