I left a job in the financial services sector to train and become a teacher. It’s cliched, I know, but I wanted to ‘make a difference’. I now find myself working extremely long hours in a job that is poorly paid and is subject to constant government meddling. I am a good teacher without any doubt - grades have steadily gone up, and I absolutely love being in the classroom with the kids. I have no problems motivating and nurturing students, so I am leaving teaching with a heavy heart. My problem is that I cannot go on doing two jobs & give teaching the time it demands. Additionally, I’m living in rented accommodation and I have very little prospect of getting onto the property ladder, I cannot afford holidays or luxuries - I did not get a good degree and burden myself with horrendous debts to be poor.

I know that my future career must involve lots of interaction with people. My degree is in management and finance, but I’m at a loss… What should I do that pays well enough?

I don’t know, but after dealing with finance and kids, too bad you can’t go into counseling or psychiatry or open your own daycare or start doing seminars to teach single parents how to live on a budget when they have kids. I am afraid kids always cost.

If you really like teaching, move to another school that give better salary. Your experience can help you get a good paying teaching job. High standard private schools hire good teachers.
